Ennio Morricone (1928-2020) is one of my favourite recent composers so when he passed away in early July, I was moved to compose a piano arrangement of my favourite piece of his "The Ecstacy of Gold".
This short piece is from the 1966 Sergio Leone film "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly". One of my favourite film moments of all times, (from the best Western film ever) "The Ecstacy of Gold" perfectly sets up the tense atmosphere when "The Ugly" is desparately searching for a stash of gold in a massive cemetary.
I highly recommend watching the film of course.
This arrangement was challenging because I had trouble deciding how to simulate the stunning vocal and orchestral parts.
I ultimately decided that a triple staff was required to present the full complexity of all the components of the piece.
Engraving was performed with MuseScore 3.
I hope you enjoy.
